5TH ANNUAL MUSIC CAMP COMING IN JUNE
TO PACOLET RIVER BANKS
NORTH OF SPARTANBURG, S.C.

Early-Bird Tickets Now Available for 2-Day Event
Featuring a Dynamic Lineup Filled with Variety

The 5th Annual Music Camp festival will be held Friday and Saturday, June 19 and 20, this year and will feature a variety of acts from across the continent.
The 5th annual festival, which has evolved and grown over the past four years, will take place in Upstate South Carolina, north of Spartanburg, along the banks of the beautiful Pacolet River (located off IH 85 at Exit 80).
Music Camp has been expanded to two days and will include some of the best bands in North America — bands such as New Orleans’ Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Canada’s The Duhks, Carolina favorite The Blue Dogs and festival favorite Donna the Buffalo.
Until May 1, early-bird tickets, available at http://www.themusiccamp.com, are $50 for the Weekend Pass (the only way to see Friday’s shows) and $35 for the Saturday Pass.
Print-out paper tickets are redeemed at the festival gate. After May 1, ticket prices rise to $60 for the weekend and $40 for Saturday night.
Camping passes (per vehicle, not per person) — for those who want to pitch a tent near the Pacolet and tailgate partiers — are $30 (and will likely sell out). Remote parking is a short walk to the festival grounds.

The lineup:
Friday:
3:45-4:45 p.m., On the Corner Band
5-6:10 p.m., The Shane Pruitt Band
6:30-7:40 p.m., The Blue Dogs

9:30-10:45 p.m., The Duhks
11 p.m.-12:30 a.m., Dirty Dozen Brass Band

Saturday:
1:45-2:40 p.m., On the Corner Band
3:10-4 p.m., DAM Combo
4:20-5:10 p.m., The Piedmont Boys
5:30-6:15 p.m., Matthew Knight Williams
6:45-8 p.m., Casey Driessen and the Color Fools
8:20-9:40 p.m., The Infamous Stringdusters
10-11:15 p.m., The Belleville Outfit
11:30 p.m.-1 a.m., Boombox

The bands:
Dirty Dozen Brass Band, 11 p.m.-12:30 a.m. Friday
With a career of 30-plus years, the country’s flagship brass ensemble out of New Orleans was recently seen backing Lil’ Wayne at the GRAMMY Awards. Mixing vibrant instrumentals and scorching vocals performed by guests, it comments in its own powerful way on the state and fate of society and the world, infused with band members’ experiences with Hurricane Katrina and resulting devastation. www.dirtydozen.com

Donna the Buffalo, 8-9:10 p.m. Friday
The rootsy Ithaca, N.Y., folk-rock sextet tours extensively with its eclectic and often socially conscious music — provided by three lead singer-instrumentalists, guitarist, bassist and drummer — is a regular attraction at festivals coast to coast and beyond. Its latest recording, SILVERLINED, is available now. www.donnathebuffalo.com

The Belleville Outfit, 10-11:15 p.m. Saturday
No Depression said the Austin band “captures the best of the hippie-friendly roots string band zeitgeist, without succumbing to it,” and its “hot-saucy Texas honky-tonk, city-slicker indie-pop, jam-grass mischief, cool jazz and big-band swing” (Boston Globe) flavors its second album, TIME TO STAND, slated for release May 12. www.bellevilleoutfit.com

The Blue Dogs, 6:30-7:40 p.m. Friday
As the Charleston, S.C.-based Americana rock band celebrates 20 years, it will release LIVE AT THE DOCK STREET THEATRE, the DVD of a live show recorded at the historical venue where it recorded its first live CD in 1995. www.bluedogs.com

The Duhks, 9:30-10:45 p.m. Friday
The quintet out of Winnipeg, Manitoba, takes its traditional roots-based song structures seriously but has never stopped evolving through members’ collective musical worldview, and its latest release, FAST-PACED WORLD, reflects a new confidence and a growing collection of originals and covers. Although high-tech, touring on as sustainable basis as possible, the band’s timeless mission is “just to play music that speaks to everybody.” www.duhks.com

The Infamous Stringdusters, 8:20-9:40 p.m. Saturday
With a wild and winning 2007 under its belt (International Bluegrass Music Association Album of the Year, Song of the Year-“Fork in the Road” and Best Emerging Artist), the band continues to impress major festival audiences with its well-crafted acoustic bluegrass-rock-country-blues-folk-jazz sound. The band’s landed a development deal for motion picture music with Lions Gate Entertainment. www.thestringdusters.com

BoomBox, 11:30 p.m. Saturday-1 a.m.
From the historically contributory musical hotbox of Muscle Shoals, Ala., the duo of songwriting former touring DJ and producer-drummer has created a fusion of rock ’n’ roll, vintage psychedelic and house music that draws music lovers of all ages, tastes and backgrounds and keeps them coming back. www.thisisboombox.com
Casey Driessen and The Color Fools, 6:45-8 p.m. Saturday
The fiddler, who’s played on stage with stars he grew up listening to and learning from, done session work with some of the best, toured China and Tibet, and contributed to the “Walk the Line” soundtrack, brings his signature rhythmic “chop” style to the festival along with his band from his GRAMMY Award-nominated debut record, 3D. www.caseydriessen.com

The Shane Pruitt Band, 5-6:10 p.m. Friday
The Spartanburg-based blues band that’s touring the Southeast with its explorative, expressive sound, has become one of the most recognized and popular bands in the area, opening for national acts and headlined festivals including the Greenwood Blues Cruise, Carolina Down Home Blues Festival, Low Country Blues Bash, Spoleto Festival and Indian Summer Festival. www.theshanepruittband.com

Matthew Knights Williams, 5:30-6:15 p.m. Saturday
Music writer Peter Cooper describes the Cowpens, S.C., family man and artist as “an enormously talented and undeniably magnetic performer,” and his new recording, COTTONWOOD, reflects his survival of a turbulent adolescence and young adulthood as well as his experience, talents and a hard-won maturity. www.matthewknights.com

The Piedmont Boys, 4:20-5:10 p.m. Saturday
Members’ good looks belie the Greenville, Texas, band’s outlaw country sound (screaming fiddle solos, slap-happy lyrics, harmony vocals, old-fashioned songs), but that’s not all: The band sounds like it’s been together for more than seven months; its country licks are equal to its bluegrass chops; and its fast-growing fan base extends to the West Coast. The band’s new self-titled album is available now. www.thepiedmontboys.com

DAM Combo, 3:10-4 p.m. Saturday
The hard-folk three-piece band from Upstate South Carolina, called “fascinating” by Italy’s Ilpopolodel Blues, exists away from “music scene popularity contests” and maintains a humble attitude despite being regularly featured on radio and TV and in books. Members are bassist Don McGraw, vocalist Annabelle Ranck and primary songwriter-guitarist-singer-producer Matt Ranck. www.damcombo.com

On the Corner Band, 3:45-4:45 p.m. Friday, 1:45-2:40 p.m. Saturday
Because members come from classical, jazz, gospel, rock and blues backgrounds, the group has become a melting pot for some of the best young musicians in Upstate South Carolina. Cover work ranges from tunes by Stevie Wonder to Sly and the Family Stone to Miles Davis to John Coltrane. www.onthecornerband.com
