http://www.mountainsongfestival.com/

I know a lot of people will be at Trinumeral but I just found out today about a bluegrass alternative in the mountains that same weekend.  Thought I would post in case anyone was interested.

Friday Night 6:30 PM - 10:30 PM
Moon Shine Babies    6:30 - 7:30
Steep Canyon Rangers (Host Band)    8:00 - 8:45
Town Mountain    9:00 - 10:30

Saturday- Gates open at 12:00pm
Steep Canyon Rangers (Host Band)    2:00 - 2:45
Shannon Whitworth & the Refugees    3:00 - 3:45
Seldom Scene    4:00 - 4:45
Steve Martin with Steep Canyon Rangers (Host Band)    5:00 - 5:45
Shannon Whitworth & The Refugees    6:00 - 6:45
Seldon Scene    7:00 - 7:45

Intermission
David Grisman Quintet    8:30 - 10:00

And yes, that is THE comedian/actor etc. Steve Martin playing banjo with the Steep Canyon Rangers.

Unfortunately there is no camping on festival grounds, but I'm sure there are plenty of campgrounds close by.

Dang that's looking like a lot of fun. I didn't know that wild and crazy guy played banjo. I wonder how they know each other. Solid bluegrass lineup for those who would rather remain grounded that weekend

Steve is actually an accomplished banjo player.

From what I remember, Steve Martin is touring to promote a new album.  Not comedy.  Music.

I'm not sure how he hooked up with them, but I remember reading something earlier this year about him playing banjo and his new album "The Crow - New Songs for the 5 String Banjo".  Then I heard him playing with the Steep Canyon Rangers on Prairie Home Companion last June.  That kinda blew my mind.  I've seen the Steep Canyon Rangers a couple of times before and they are tight.  I haven't seen them play with Steve before, but they all sounded good on the radio.

Steve was very humble and said that he always bills those gigs as "Steve Martin playing with the Steep Canyon Rangers" because they don't need him but he sure needs them.  I've heard that the Steep Canyon Rangers are getting all kinds of great publicity, which is always nice to see for a good NC band.

The truly ambitious could go to Trinumeral, then take a break on Saturday and drive the 35 minutes to Brevard for the Mountain Song Festival and a bluegrass fix, then be back at Trinumeral in time for nighttime fun.  bear

Not that I'm that ambitious.  But it could be done.
