OMG guys just wait till you read and/or hear the phone interview I just did with Jim Weider... the Carolinas are in for it.. Mitch Stein can't make the tour so Percolator's original guitar player and one of Jim's favorite guitar players of all time will be making the tour... Jesse Gress of Todd Rundgren fame... Greensboro let us know how it goes since you get them before the rest of us. Oh and Jim had really nice things to say about LiveNation as well..

Give me a few days to transcribe this... it's looong

you aren't kidding there...

AP - here's a taste... Full interview coming tomorrow.

CHRIS -  If we could back up just a bit. When did you take up guitar, did you study with anyone or are you self taught?

JIM WEIDER – I’m pretty much self-taught. I picked it up as a kid at like ten or eleven and just kind of taught myself by listening to records… just basic ear training, you know? I’d put a quarter on top of the record to slow it down. You can figure out the licks to “Twilight Zone” or The Ventures, “Walk Don’t Run”, and then work your way up. (chuckles)

CHRIS – I hear that (chuckles), I learned to play drums playing to The Ventures.

JIM WEIDER – There you go. I still have the record, “Play Along With The Ventures”. It’s in my music studio. It’s great stuff.

CHRIS - I bet a clean copy of that vinyl is worth something these days.

JIM WIEDER – Yeah, yeah… I don’t have that but basically yeah. Along the way I got to meet guitar legend Lenny Breau when I was living in Nashville. I took a couple of lessons from him which was really exciting for me and one guy gave me a lesson, showing me the Jesse Ed Davis licks on the real blues and Taj Mahal stuff. That really changed my life because he showed me vibrato. You know like how to really do the slow vibrato like Jesse Ed did. I think that was mind opening for me… to really focus on tone and touch and vibrato.

That's awesome! I can't wait to read it all. I think I'll have to skip out on future brother in-laws party for a couple hours and bring my ass to charlotte...I have to catch that Actual Proof set for sure, and all those seasoned musicians in the DD, it can't be missed!
