From Madison Square Garden to Bonnaroo to Japan’s Fuji Rock, Jamie McLean’s musical footprint has marked every corner of the globe. Performing alongside musical icons such as Elvis Costello, Widespread Panic, and Dave Matthews, he has shared the stage with scores of prevalent names in the industry. Always in high demand, McLean has also lent his studio chops to everyone from Norah Jones to Chuck D, proving he is the quintessential workingman’s guitarist. Backed by a dynamic voice loaded with soul, McLean’s transformation from sideman to front man has been seamless. With drops of southern roots rock, blues, R&B, funk and soul oozing from their amplifiers, the Jamie McLean Band offers “honest rock and roll” that pulls no punches. Night in and night out, Jamie McLean’s performances are smothered in soul and confident command of the six-string. Take the straightforward, no-nonsense rock of the Rolling Stones and The Black Crowes and mix in the personal sincerity of Ryan Adams and Tom Petty and the result is the Jamie McLean Band.

I've had this one on my schedule for almost a month now!  NYE in charlotte, with friends & at a 'family' joint- short of traveling to colorado for YMSB / Panic, I can't think of a better way to ring in the new year.  Let panic bashing commence.

I have never head Jamie live before...looks like it will be a treat :)

So how was your Jamie McLean New Years guys?  Been sitting on pins and needles waiting to hear about the show..  I saw Brad's photos but they don't tell me what I missed.  One of these days I'll figure out how to be in two places at the same time :)

Mahoney - Thanks for helping out with the badges and such... you and James rock!

We missed you guys as well... but had lots of CLMS friends around us to ring '09 in with an exclamation point! I was impressed at the distances some people had driven for the run... one couple was from Richmond, VA! While y'all held it down in The Queen City we were doing the same in Greensboro for sure...
Glad good times were had by all... anyone else want to elaborate/review this event??  I know Brad and Vince were there.. please don't make me wait until jam cruise is over to get a fluff free summary of the event... lol.

I'd like to give my take on Jamie McLean Band's performance on New Year's (My darling wife, with her remarkably accurate sentiments of how grateful we are to be a part of CLMS, unknowingly posted that last reply from my account).

This having been my first exposure to their performance, I am unable to provide song titles or a review of individual pieces.  What I can say, is that I was immediately into the music the moment they started playing.  Each song they played had a continually flowing rhythm and a great bass line which held us in their groove.  I spent most of the evening on the dance floor as a result.  I was impressed from the get go, as I had entered the room with no idea what to expect.

If I were to make a comparison, they immediately reminded me of Petty, simply do to the nature of the music...Jamie's lyrics are strong and neither the written music nor the lyrics/vocals took a back seat.  That is to say that each complimented the other quite well.

A secondary comparision I would make, is to Jacob Dylan.  This due to the fact that I hadn't really heard him since his WallFlowers days and had no frame of reference as to his new material, but was blown away by the originality of it when he came through the Neighborhood this past spring.  From that stand point, it was very similar.

The mid second set Rolling Stone's Loving Cup they played was quite a pleasant surprise for me (Thank you Ellen Stone, for being such an elegant dance partner).  Jamie added his own thing to the vocals and they definitely rocked it out.

I was sitting for a moment with some guy, who had been hitting relentlessly on every girl that passed by, who kept telling them he was with creative loafing.  He asked what I thought of the band and I told him I was having a great time and added that they reminded me of Petty.  He had a remarkably arrogant attitude towards the band...which I found to be quite disturbing.  I suggested he be a little more open minded and decided he was no longer worth the discussion.  I thought it was funny that less than five minutes after we stopped talking, the band covered "You wreck me", from the WildFlowers album.

All in all, it was a great show...the CLMS crowd present made it even that much more special, just as it has always done.  Great friends, relaxed environment and really good music...I don't think I could've chosen a different event for New Years and enjoyed it in quite that way.  It was really a great show and a great night.

Thank you to Jamie and the band and thank you CLMS!
