Oh well such is a tapers life.
I partially agree... you should have posted, oh well such is an uploaders life or archivist's life.
Someone who tapes for themselves and their family/friends only deals with the hassle of people talking/chatting around their mics or security guards wanting their gear

A taper doesn't have to gather permissions from venue, band, and management to make the recording public. He doesn't have to stay for the entire show if it's one of those yawners. He doesn't have to push his priorities around because of a pushy band or a pushy fan that thinks they should get the recording in a day or two. A taper doesn't spend hours Googling lyrics in an attempt to gather accurate data for tagging... Or make a coaster every time he tries to burn a 3 disc show. Hell a taper doesn't even have to try to obtain a setlist. Tapers don't convert massive files into a format that can easily be downloaded or thrown onto an iPod. All a taper has to do is show up, press record and walk out when they're good and ready to, then later listen at their leisure and love every pop, hiss, and click that HE got on tape... I'm liking the thought of taping more and more over archiving. I once thought it was a selfish thing but not any more. I see both sides of the fence now.
I understand how digi can tape for many years and never share his recordings with the general public. TheMayor never uploaded but was a fixture at the side or front of the board for years. Jimbo used to upload a ton but now spends valuable time enjoying more shows. DATgirl33 will happily burn and mail the CDRs as long as the recipient gives her postage and replaces the discs she uses. Maybe that's the way to go.. If a show is downloaded 30 times it sure as heck takes less time to burn the show, affix postage, and walk to the mailbox... even less to just take Roy's stance when asked if/when a show is going to uploaded... "nope"
I didn't post this topic seeking appreciation. I posted because I was pleasantly floored by seeing and then hearing my recording on Livedownloads.... I truly am honored since those are my SCI boys and really great people as well. EOTO is a big touring act so I wouldn't expect anything from them. Having my recording worthy of a livedownload is humbling enough. I don't claim to be a taper or recording technician.. I'm just a live music lover with an addiction that forces me into wanting every show I attend to be within ears reach should I want to relive the event down the road

Finding that recording w/o credits sort of reminded me of how consuming people can be without realizing that they're not giving much or anything back in return. Imo that's what encourages those who devote countless hours and expense towards sharing to continue to do so.
Without appreciation and encouragement, where's the motivation to do it? There's no money to be made.. in fact it's illegal to try to. A photographer can sell his photos, land photo shoots for bands, weddings, magazines, newspapers, etc. from his reputation as a good live music photographer. An archivist usually pays his own way into the show but is the first to be asked by the band or their fans for his finished product. A photographer is told , "Wow great pics" while the archivists around here get nothing. I actually had a guy the other night tell me that he's downloaded at least a hundred (probably an exaggeration) shows from this site but when I asked if he's leaving thank yous he admits that he's a lurker. Being a lurker is no excuse for not showing graciousness... Tha's like saying, "I'm shy therefore I don't tip my bartender"
All I'm saying is I'm honored that EOTO used the recording and only wish more people would be like both of you guys... unselfish enough to show appreciation when the opportunity arises.
