So maybe he's better than ok... OK?

I pulled the board @ The Double Door for EOTO and was told not to release it, that they wanted a copy.  The next day I gave it to them without much ado.  A few weeks later I contacted them to see if they had decided to release it or if I could on LMA... no response.  This morning I was checking LMA again and decided to go over to livedownloads and my recording is up for sale.

http://www.livedownloads.com/live-music/0,3090/EOTO-mp3-flac-download-10-23-2008-The-Double-Door-Inn-Charlotte-NC.html

They did a little post processing but it's def. my recording.  I was the only one with a board feed that night and I had asked Travis whether they were recording from on stage and he said "no".

Not sure whether to honored that they used my recording or to be a little ticked that they didn't at least give credit... nevertheless it's a sweet recording that I wanted so badly to share.  Glad to help those guys out... good people who have given me many, many happy SCI and EOTO memories.

They could have at least given credit for the taping and burning the CD. Oh well such is a tapers life.

ain't that the truth.  Nobody ever thanks or comments about what they thought of a recording... it really amazes me.  It kind of makes me understand why so many tapers choose not to share.  People never offer to compensate for the discs but are sure to make their requests to "burn me a copy" or "will I be able to download this show" and then never give thanks for the hours it takes to get a show post processed and uploaded... as if we get something out of it other than a possible thank you... people are selfish and suck! (generally)

Every upload from any of us deserve at least as many thank yous as there are downloads or listens... but that's just mo

I know I do not always Thank the taper when I get a show. But for this site and being such a community and hanging out at shows. I do realize we all should. Esp. on here with the nice local shows we get we normally could not get anywhere else. So for all the times I haven't Thanked you to everyone who gives us music to rock out to. You guys are awesome!

I partially agree... you should have posted, oh well such is an uploaders life or archivist's life.

Someone who tapes for themselves and their family/friends only deals with the hassle of people talking/chatting around their mics or security guards wanting their gear   Tongue

A taper doesn't have to gather permissions from venue, band, and management to make the recording public.  He doesn't have to stay for the entire show if it's one of those yawners. He doesn't have to push his priorities around because of a pushy band or a pushy fan that thinks they should get the recording in a day or two.  A taper doesn't spend hours Googling lyrics in an attempt to gather accurate data for tagging...  Or make a coaster every time he tries to burn a 3 disc show. Hell a taper doesn't even have to try to obtain a setlist.  Tapers don't convert massive files into a format that can easily be downloaded or thrown onto an iPod.  All a taper has to do is show up, press record and walk out when they're good and ready to, then later listen at their leisure and love every pop, hiss, and click that HE got on tape... I'm liking the thought of taping more and more over archiving.  I once thought it was a selfish thing but not any more.  I see both sides of the fence now.

I understand how digi can tape for many years and never share his recordings with the general public.  TheMayor never uploaded but was a fixture at the side or front of the board for years.   Jimbo used to upload a ton but now spends valuable time enjoying more shows.  DATgirl33 will happily burn and mail the CDRs as long as the recipient gives her postage and replaces the discs she uses.  Maybe that's the way to go.. If a show is downloaded 30 times it sure as heck takes less time to burn the show, affix postage, and walk to the mailbox... even less to just take Roy's stance when asked if/when a show is going to uploaded... "nope"

I didn't post this topic seeking appreciation.  I posted because I was pleasantly floored by seeing and then hearing my recording on Livedownloads.... I truly am honored since those are my SCI boys and really great people as well.  EOTO is a big touring act so I wouldn't expect anything from them. Having my recording worthy of a livedownload is humbling enough.  I don't claim to be a taper or recording technician.. I'm just a live music lover with an addiction that forces me into wanting every show I attend to be within ears reach should I want to relive the event down the road Tongue

Finding that recording w/o credits sort of reminded me of how consuming people can be without realizing that they're not giving much or anything back in return.  Imo that's what encourages those who devote countless hours and expense towards sharing to continue to do so.

Without appreciation and encouragement, where's the motivation to do it?  There's no money to be made.. in fact it's illegal to try to. A photographer can sell his photos, land photo shoots for bands, weddings, magazines, newspapers, etc. from his reputation as a good live music photographer.  An archivist usually pays his own way into the show but is the first to be asked by the band or their fans for his finished product.  A photographer is told , "Wow great pics"  while the archivists around here get nothing.  I actually had a guy the other night tell me that he's downloaded at least a hundred (probably an exaggeration) shows from this site but when I asked if he's leaving thank yous he admits that he's a lurker.  Being a lurker is no excuse for not showing graciousness... Tha's like saying, "I'm shy therefore I don't tip my bartender"

All I'm saying is I'm honored that EOTO used the recording and only wish more people would be like both of you guys... unselfish enough to show appreciation when the opportunity arises.

Chris, your point is well taken! I feel that people ARE appreciative....just don't realize the time, effort and headaches that are associated with the service provided by tapers/archivist/ect. And...well....some people are just takers!

One thing I DO KNOW is that.... I really enjoyed the Keller set...being that I didn't experience it first hand :)

Keller's energy live is great but having seen Keller a lot and following him on a few run's you get just as much from the recording on this one. Well if you "Dance like no one is watching" :) to recordings.

Props to Chris  Thumbs Up, I've always taped and really only shared with my friends and family and the band, occasionally I would post to LMA.  The words are true about the time it takes to tape the show, track the show, get the set list and then spend hours upping it.   High 5's to Chris I know you and bhadella feel the pain too.  Chris I love the back handed sarcasm, if you reverse all of the comments that a taper does not have to do then and only then would the general public understand what is really involved with the free good music that they can download all because of a tapers passion.  Great post.  Agreed that it is cool when the band thinks highly enough of the capture that they sell it; very cool, just wish that they recognized the person who provided it for them.

After reading the reviews of The Dead tour so far what Hit me like a ton of bricks was that on almost every show in one or more of the reviews someone thanked the taper.  Very cool.
