So you've reunited...

Can you tell us the history of Chasing Edison and how the name came about?

"Reunited and it feels so good..."

Ha ha, no he didn't?? I did.

It started back in 2000 believe it or not. Justin and Greg answered the same flyer for a band in Raleigh. Chasing Edison was formed. It became evident the kind of show they wanted needed lights. That's where Trent comes in, who does our lights today. He was friends with Justin and just volunteered...never having done lights before (aside from CE, he's done lights now for countless bands including Tea Leaf Green and is the current lighting director for the Fillmore- but please don't hate him for that my fellow indie venue supporters!) The band was together about 4 years before they broke up.

Fast forward to winter of '08. Justin called Dalton to see if he was interested in bringing the band back. The four of us jammed for the first time and Dalton was in Charlotte by February. Chasing Edison 2.0 was formed.

So if you do the math, we had only been together about 4 months by the time we played Mayfest. Which was a monumental first gig for us. We had so much fun, that we all knew we were on to something. And the rest, as they say, is...

Oh yeah, the name. A lot of people ask that.
Where do you think the name came from?? That goes for anyone! (who doesn't know of course)

No guesses for the name?? How about this...

I will give three explanations of where the name came from. One is the truth, the others are completely fabricated.

1) The first porno Dalton ever saw was named Chasing Edison. It was a VHS tape in his dad's porn stash. Him and a friend broke into it one summer day...and the rest, as they say, is history.

2) It's stems from the Simpson's. In one episode, Homer became enlightened with being an inventor. He then became infatuated with beating Thomas Edison's record for inventions, but could never quite beat him.

3) Edison was a homeless man that the original bass player met in Chicago. He was actually trying to sell him a magazine...that apparently he just stole from a magazine stand. A cop rounded the corner and Edison took off...with the cop right after him.

That was fun.
What's crazy is the real answer is a combination of all 3.
Chasing Edison was a homeless porn star who made a cameo appearance on the Simpson's (rare episode, don't bother checking facts).
