Brushfire Stankgrass

Brushfire Stankgrass, based in Asheville, North Carolina, is a talented fixture in today’s mountain music scene. Known for their high energy live performances showcasing heady bluegrass, jazz, and rock-influenced chops mixed with innovative songwriting and genre-bending soundscapes, this band make a strong statement for being one of the best acts around. The remarkable chemistry and live experimentation in the music of Brushfire Stankgrass begins with its founding members, Ben & Will Saylor. The brothers began playing music at the age of three and picked up the banjo and guitar at 10 & 12, respectively. They still maintain their bluegrass chops today, but have added some Moog analog effects and “trance-mountain dub” rhythms to create a style which has moved beyond the traditional into truly uncharted territory—they call it Stankgrass. Along the way the brothers Saylor have found two outstanding musicians to round out the group. Bassist Bryan White hails from the land of Merlefest (Wilkesboro, NC), and is a veteran composer and performer on upright and electric basses. Drumming virtuoso Ian Cunningham slides into the newgrass-style seamlessly, due probably to the fact that he comes from a bluegrass-picking family (his father was a founding member of Whitewater Bluegrass Co). Both Bryan and Ian are accomplished musicians in their own right, and they maintain a busy schedule playing music full-time with multiple groups.

East Coast Dirt

www.eastcoastdirt.net

East Coast Dirt has coined the phrase "sneaker boogaloo" to describe their sound. It has become the sound of slinky and angular guitar lines blended with greasy organ and analog synth tones soaring over a solid foundation of endless bass grooves with skillful and dynamic drumming, a familiar format that grows into an exciting and unique experience. Show goers can expect the unexpected at an East Coast Dirt performance; spontaneous melodies will result in layered harmonies that dance on the edge of free jazz only to swiftly fall back into a recognizable form. Set lists will range from dense, psychedelic sound scapes to full force rockers or from organic drum n’ bass to Latin-infused jazz. But this is not a band with an identity crisis; it’s a band sculpting its voice. Each member’s rich and diverse musical background allows this Asheville quartet to blend rhythmic elements of one musical style with melodic elements of another into a strong, unified product. East Coast Dirt was formed in 2005 and most recently settled on a new lineup in early 2007. New members Brian Steel (guitar, bass, vocals) and Will Little (keyboards, vocals) joined founding members Wilson Hawes (bass, guitar, vocals) and Brad Boughton (drums, vocals) and have been enthusiastically playing shows and writing new material since. All four have played for the previous years in and around North Carolina in other acts such as Loop, Dr. Ensemble, The Southern Lights and Waterbird; creating a seasoned veteran feel to live performances. The group continues to lay down a solid groundwork of talented composition and improvisation to broaden its fan base in more and more regional venues.

Do we know who is playing 1st?  I'd like to get setup properly (onstage/stagelip for ECD and back on the ceiling rig for Brushfired) but still enjoy the Panthers taking down the Cards.....
