For both of you... Who are your personal influences?   When did you begin playing your instruments?

With electronic music and the technology these days it makes it alot easier than 5 years ago. It also help that the first year and a half we practiced 15 hours a week which allows us to be able to work as we do now. It interesting but really good at the same time.

I started out classically trained on the cello in the 5th grade and then progressed to the guitar and then the bass. I have been playing bass for about 8 years-electric and upright.

personal influences-a lot of jazz players-Gary Peacock, Scott Lafaro, Dave Holland. Too many to name now that I'm thinking about it :)

i started as a drummer when i was about 13 and switched to keys at about 18.  as far as influences - there's been SO much that has affected the way i look at music, that it's tough to narrow that one down, so i'll just say that as far as THIS particular project is concerned, the influence comes mainly from Indian and Arabic music, 1970s Jamaican Dub, some of the  downtempo electronic stuff that dropped at the very end of the 1990s, and some of the newer dancehall rhythms that are hitting right now.

Very nice...

Curt I certainly hear those influences in your playing

So with some of you in Philly and other in Asheivlle... How do you do it?  You mentioned about technology.  Can you elaborate?

we meet up a couple days before tours start and rehearse about 10 hours a day... songs are sent over the internet so that we can all come in ready to play, and we just hammer it out & get the music ready.  the material  definitely develops more on the road now than it does in the rehearsal studio...  which is a good thing

The technology has allowed us to be able to pass songs and music back and forth over e-mail so that we can personally work on it. Since Mike and I still live in Asheville, we can get together and practice new material as well. We then usually get together a couple days before tours and shows and rehearse for 10 hours a day to get the new material down for live performance. It makes it interesting and fun to play a song live for the first time under this method.

Nice!  Are we/CLMS the first to find out?

On a personal level

What artists can be found on your iPods recently? Any newer artists that grab your ear?
